Vice Mayor of Qingdao WANG Xiaofang Visited Tianjin University

On February 18th, 2014, WANG Xiaofang, the Vice Mayor of Qingdao with his delegation visited Tianjin University. LI Jiajun, the President of Tianjin University, and YUAN Ying, the Vice President of Tianjin University, met with them in the 1st conference room of the meeting building. Both sides had further discussions about  the agreement signed on January 7th. The agreement is that two parties will jointly develop a marine technology institution of Tianjin University in Qingdao. The meeting topics included the design plan of the institution, the development blueprint and the marine technology cooperation. Officials in Tianjin University Science and Technology Institution who are involved in this issue also attended the meeting.

The vice dean of Tianjin University Science and Technology Institution YANG Haiming, made a project statue report and introduced the cooperation plan. He hoped that Tianjin University and Qingdao will focus on quality and work together to develop a first class marine technology institution in the world. After that, officials in the institution development team who are from different departments including the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, the School of Electronic Information Engineering, the School of Chemical Engineering, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Civil Engineering introduced their team who are going to work in the institution, advantages of their disciplines and primary scientific research plans respectively. Then both sides discussed some details about the operation of the institution.

WANG Xiaofang said on the meeting that under the country’s strategy that China will be developed into a country with strong sea power, Qingdao government will continue develop technology and economy related to sea. It will keep attracting universities and institutions with high science and technology research capability to build their bases in Qingdao. Qingdao government is pleased to see Tianjin University build its marine technology institution in Qingdao. Future technology plans of the institution will stimulate the development of Qingdao’s marine technology and industry. This is a win-win cooperation. Qingdao government will try its best to support the project and it is confident to the institution’s prospect.

LI Jiajun said that with the nation support of developing marine technology and economy, this institution is an opportunity for Tianjin University to follow country strategy and develop itself. The institution and related departments should well prepare for the formation task and boldly reform the operating system and mechanism. Tianjin University will follow the development strategies of both our nation and  rules of Qingdao government to develop sea engineering related disciplines. The institution will enhance the capability of marine disciplines in Tianjin University. Marine disciplines will form a new character and strength of Tianjin University.
