From December 16 to 20, a delegation led by Vice President ZHAO Yuxin visited the University of Southampton to attend the annual work meeting of the Harbin Engineering University-Southampton Joint Institute for Marine Engineering. The meetings centered on reviewing past achievements and planning future initiatives to strengthen their collaboration.

During the visit, the delegation participated in the Joint Management Committee meeting, where key operational matters and strategic development plans were discussed. Representatives from the University of Southampton, including the Vice President and members of the Faculty of Engineering, also attended. The meeting focused on reviewing progress in key areas such as student course delivery and the quality of talent development.

In a separate discussion with the foreign director of the Joint Institute, the delegation reviewed the partnership's progress, particularly in talent development and the execution of academic programs. Both sides expressed high regard for the program’s success in producing skilled professionals and its significant contribution to society. They also explored strategies to further cultivate globally competitive leaders in the maritime and marine engineering industries.

The delegation continued its engagement with the University of Southampton’s Faculty of Engineering, discussing issues related to talent training, curriculum design, and textbook development. They also toured the university’s Ocean Science Laboratory, which provided valuable insights into ongoing research and innovations in the field.

This annual work meeting highlighted the substantial progress made in the partnership and facilitated in-depth discussions on future directions. Both universities reaffirmed their commitment to utilizing the Joint Institute as a platform to integrate high-quality resources, leverage complementary strengths, and enhance their global competitiveness in shipbuilding and marine engineering.
