China Launches New Ro-Ro Vessel for Aircraft Component Transport

date: Jun 08, 26 views: 1022

A roll-on/roll-off vessel built in China for the transportation of aircraft components was successfully launched at CSSC Wuchang Shipbuilding on June 6. After delivery, the vessel will mainly be used to transport aircraft components.

The newly launched vessel is approximately 169 meters long and 23.32 meters wide. It is designed with six rotor sails that resemble chimneys. Made of lightweight aerospace-grade materials and optimized through aerodynamic design, the rotor sails can significantly improve the vessel’s fuel-saving performance and economic efficiency.

The vessel also adopts methanol-diesel dual-fuel technology, enabling sulfur-free emissions and reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by more than 80 percent compared with conventional fuel. The design meets the latest emission standards of the International Maritime Organization.

The launch method of the vessel is also distinctive. It was launched using an inclined slipway, allowing the vessel to enter the water smoothly, much like taking an elevator. Vessel launching is a key step in the shipbuilding process, and the quality of the launching operation directly affects the quality of the ship. Compared with floating launches that require large docks, the inclined slipway method requires less site space and allows faster turnover.

After launching, the vessel will undergo functional tests of its engine, propeller, electrical system and other equipment at the dock. It is scheduled for official delivery in November this year. Once delivered, it will mainly be used for transatlantic aircraft component transportation.
