ICNAME Member Harbin Engineering University Hosts 2026 National Conference on Underwater Acoustics
The 2026 Academic Conference of the Underwater Acoustics Branch of the Acoustical Society of China opened at Harbin Engineering University on August 8, 2026. As an ICNAME member unit with long-standing strengths in naval architecture, ocean engineering, and underwater acoustic technologies, Harbin Engineering University hosted the event to promote academic exchange and technological innovation in underwater acoustics and marine science. The conference brought together leading experts, scholars, research institutions, universities, and industry representatives to discuss frontier developments in underwater acoustics. The opening ceremony was attended by several prominent academicians and specialists in the field, including Yang Desen, Liu Qingyu, Da Lianglong, and other distinguished experts, reflecting the national significance and academic influence of the event. Underwater acoustics is a key enabling technology for ocean observation, underwater communication, positioning and navigation, target detection, marine environmental sensing, and the development of advanced ocean engineering equipment. By hosting this conference, Harbin Engineering University further strengthened its role as an important platform for talent cultivation, scientific research, and interdisciplinary collaboration in marine technology. During the conference, Harbin Engineering University also supported initiatives aimed at connecting scientific research with industrial and social needs. The launch of the “Underwater Acoustics Science and Technology Service Team” was intended to build a long-term platform for industry–university–research cooperation and promote the application of underwater acoustic technologies in marine industries. Another important initiative, “Underwater Acoustics Popularization into a Thousand Classes,” was launched to encourage young students to learn about the deep sea and underwater acoustic science. This effort reflects the university’s commitment not only to frontier research, but also to science communication and the cultivation of future marine engineering talent. The successful organization of the conference demonstrates the academic leadership and innovation capacity of ICNAME member Harbin Engineering University in underwater acoustics and ocean engineering. It also highlights the important role of ICNAME member institutions in advancing marine science, strengthening international academic exchange, and supporting the development of smart and sustainable ocean technologies.
