China’s Second Domestically Built Large Cruise Ship Adora Flora City Starts Sea Trial
“I hereby announce that China’s domestically built large cruise ship Adora Flora City officially sets sail for its sea trial today!”

At around 6:00 a.m. on May 16, following the announcement by Wang Guoqiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group, Director, and President of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), China’s second domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Flora City, slowly departed from Berth No. 5 of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CSSC, beginning its 12-day sea trial. Hu Xianfu, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of CSSC, attended the departure ceremony and delivered a speech.

Before the departure ceremony, on the afternoon of May 15, Wang Guoqiang and Hu Xianfu attended the flag-awarding ceremony for the temporary Party organization of Adora Flora City. Flags were presented to the temporary Party organization, Party member vanguard teams/responsibility zones, and youth commando teams for the sea trial. Under the leadership of Wang Guoqiang, all Party members renewed their oath of admission to the Communist Party of China and attended a special lecture on the exemplary deeds of Academician Huang Xuhua.
Wang Guoqiang and Hu Xianfu also listened to a special report on preparations for the sea trial, inspected the engine room, bridge, and logistics areas, and observed an emergency drill.
Wang Guoqiang noted that the sea trial of Adora Flora City is an innovative practice aimed at completing the sea trial in a single voyage, based on the experience gained from the two sea trials of the first domestically built large cruise ship. It is also a critical step in ensuring high-quality delivery. He emphasized that the sea trial team should keep in mind the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, further enhance their political awareness, and establish and practice a correct view of performance. The team should give full play to the role of the temporary Party committee and the temporary Party branches as strong battle fortresses, while carrying out all sea trial tasks solidly and adhering to the principle of “life first, safety foremost.”
Wang Guoqiang stressed the need to uphold the overall leadership of the Party and focus on the successful implementation of the cruise ship sea trial plan. He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety, quality, employees’ well-being and health, risk management, emergency drills, and effective working mechanisms, with particular attention to changes during the process.
It is understood that, thanks to the good condition of Adora Flora City and meticulous early-stage planning, this sea trial innovatively combines the two sea trials conducted for the first ship into one. A total of 937 engineering and technical personnel from 12 countries are participating in the trial.
The sea trial team will strictly follow the sea trial plan and carry out 149 tests and verification tasks covering propulsion, side thrusters, stabilizer fins, power stations, navigation and communication, radio systems, automation, safety management systems, and related equipment. These tasks involve 45 commissioning procedures. Key indicators such as vibration and noise, speed, and the Energy Efficiency Design Index will also be verified.
On the day of departure, with support from Shanghai border inspection and maritime authorities, Adora Flora City left the Yangtze River channel and arrived at the designated anchorage, where it began a series of tests, including propulsion system commissioning.
Relevant departments of CSSC headquarters, heads of related secondary management units, and representatives of the temporary Party and Youth League organizations for the sea trial attended the related activities.
Adora Flora City has an overall length of 341 meters and a gross tonnage of 141,900 tonnes. It features 2,130 guest rooms and suites and can accommodate up to 5,232 passengers at full capacity. As of now, the overall construction progress has reached 97.8%, with interior outfitting 92.3% complete and commissioning 89.8% complete. Significant improvements have been made in the integrity of various door systems, automation systems, air balancing, water mist systems, public address systems, and fire alarm systems.
Adora Flora City is scheduled for official delivery on November 6, 2026. After delivery, it will begin its maiden voyage season from Guangzhou Nansha International Cruise Home Port.
