In recent days, China’s shipbuilding sector has reported a number of major achievements. A 319,000-DWT ammonia-ready very large crude carrier has been delivered to its user and is expected to achieve near-zero-carbon operation throughout its full voyage in the future. China’s largest 180,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier has been successfully completed. The world’s largest pile-driving vessel, Tiejian Daqiao Zhuang 1, has also been delivered, providing key equipment support for large cross-sea bridges and deep-sea offshore engineering projects.

With the goal of developing globally leading shipbuilding and offshore engineering products, China is accelerating the construction of world-class industrial clusters in this field. The Yangtze River Delta is making every effort to build itself into a global high-end ship and marine equipment hub. The Bohai Rim region has formed a complete industrial chain ranging from the R&D of green main engines to the manufacturing of green ships. The Pearl River Delta is focusing on the development of offshore engineering equipment and promoting coordinated industrial layouts in offshore oil and gas development, offshore wind power supporting facilities, and related sectors.

The development of world-class shipbuilding and offshore engineering industrial clusters has improved shipbuilding efficiency, expanded the share of high-end vessel types, and attracted an increasing number of global partners.

The Outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan clearly states the need to strengthen and optimize bases for high-end ships and offshore engineering equipment.

This year, China will advance the R&D, design, and manufacturing of large cruise ships, large LNG carriers, and other high-end vessels, further consolidating and enhancing its advantages in marine equipment manufacturing.

China’s completed shipbuilding output this year is expected to exceed 60 million deadweight tonnes, maintaining its leading position in the world.
