The 2023 Applied Technologies of Wave Loads on Ships and Offshore Structures and Annual Meeting of COMPASS-WALCS Software Users, jointly organized by Harbin Engineering University, China Classification Society, and the MOE (Ministry of Education of China) International Joint Laboratory of Naval Architecture and Offshore Technology were held at HEU Sailing Activity Center from February 16 to 18, 2023.

The aim of this conference is to discuss the advancement of theoretical and methodological research on the theories and methods for the calculation of wave loads on ships and offshore structures, to facilitate the exchanges between domestic and international scholars and researchers, and to promote the application of COMPASS-WALCS, a suite of codes jointly developed and released by China Classification Society and Harbin Engineering University for the calculation of wave loads on ships and offshore structures.

About one hundred researchers and engineers participated in the Workshop, including China Classification Society, China Ship Scientific Research Center, Ship Science Research Institute, Marine Design and Research Institute of China, China Special Vehicle Research Institute, China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Dalian University of Technology, Wuhan University of Technology, Naval Engineering University, Dalian Maritime University, PetroChina Engineering Technology Research Institute, Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd., Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited, Shuanglong Soft Creation (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd., and Beijing Yundao Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Co., Ltd.

COMPASS-WALCS is the first suite of commercial codes in China for the calculation of wave loads on ships and offshore structures, and it consists of 5 modules: Compass-WALCS-BASIC (linear module), Compass-WALCS-LE (linear hydroelasticity), Compass-WALCS-NE (non-linear hydroelasticity), Compass-WALCS-CRA (Mooring), and Compass-WALCS-FNL (Fully nonlinear). The suite of codes has more than 200 users including universities, research institutes, design companies and shipyards.
